My final reflection this year for my last clay project, the free choice! Although he did not survive due to murder, (someone knocked him off the shelf) Brian did turn out very pleasing with his little top hat and monocle. It was pretty simple to make, all he was was a long thin piece of clay with some minor detail. He never got any color for he only made it through the bisque once. The reason for this project... I'm not entirely sure, I guess he was just there for my amusement.

The second to last clay project of 2016-17 MSHS Beginners Art, the detailed mug. It has a green coil snake and the B.P.R.D. symbol on it from a comic series that I highly recommend. For this mug I did not use the rolling pin to help form the hollow cylinder but just formed the cylinder myself. Also, for making the symbol and snake on the mug, I used the skills I learned from making Brian the snake (bless his soul) and from making the bottom of the mug. Sadly, I did not have enough time to color the entire mug so the only painted colors were on the symbol and the snake. I really spent some time carving out the symbol on the medallion of clay and liked how it turned out immensely. The reason for the creation of this particular mug was just as a geeky hot cocoa or tea mug.
My third clay project is a tall four color mug. For this project, I only scored and slipped several components and did little to no carving. I had used the rolling pin to shape the cylinder part of the mug and had scored and slipped it as the bottom, a circular piece of clay I cut out to the shape of the bottom of the cylinder. The handle of the mug was not quite what I was going for but it did turn out satisfactory in the end. (I had wanted it to be small and unusable to be ironic and also create the illusion of the mug looking bigger than it actually is). For colors, I simply dipped the top of the mug in one color and the bottom in another color. There was a gap so I filled it in. Sadly, the bottom of the mug had not been completely removed of paint so it stuck to the bottom of the kiln and broke a bit off the bottom (lucky the whole thing wasn't completely destroyed). I Had intended to use this as a tea mug but my mother decided it was too great and put it on display..... She won't let me touch it..... Which absolutely demolishes it's intended purpose in life.
For my second clay project, I created a coil vessel layered with different clay techniques. For most of the stacked clay layers, I just used simple thin long strands of clay which I scored and slipped together and on the inside of the vessel, smoothed out to ensure it stayed secure and looked proffesional on the inside. The more complex layers were also scored, slipped, and smoothed but were made differently. I had several curled coils on one layer and on another, small little clay coins. I really liked how the outside color turned out and the spacing in between some of the layers although I wish I had spent more time designing and coloring the inside. The purpose of this clay project will either be to hold my paint brushes or be a simple pencil holder.
