My first clay project and personal favorite, the pinch pot creature, is of a facehugger coming out of it's egg. Although my project does not have a face, I attempted to make up for it by including plenty of carving and detail. The body of the facehugger was originally a flat piece of clay scored and slipped to the two fused pinch pots. The 5 petals were also scored and slipped but at the top of the egg. One of the things I am most proud of in this project was the detail on the tail of the facehugger. I had attached another smaller string of clay to the tail, scored and slipped it, and added detail to attempt to give the facehugger a spine and slight anatomical accuracy. I really appreciated the natural looking colors on this. The eggs color was a mixture of several other colors that Mr. Meserve himself made and was a slight gamble however I was pleased with the results. The reason for this project is because of my love for the Alien franchise and for my intense excitement for Alien: Covenant. (May 19!!)

Probably one of my favorite drawings from this year, I sereal dipiction of myself and my friends. I combined a lot of what I learned this year into this watercolor painting such as depth, serealism, shading, and the watercolor technique. I took a bit of a risk and experimented with the water color by laying the water down first than adding the paint on the koi fish. I though it turned out okay, and for the background there are two colors when I wanted to try to make stars but failed although I did make some neat unintentional texture to the background. I drew this because I really wanted it to reflect on myself and my life. For example, the art style is what I like the most and want to work on. The fish and fishermen are symbolism of my friends. The flipped platforms of land and blacked out face of the girl try to reflect on my emotions. And lastly the bubbled earth. Although mostly cut off from other people, I'm still happy in my own world. (Get on my deep level man)
For my self portrait piece I attempted to draw myself and shade with charcoal. In it, I tried to use elements of shading and not letting on place be completely white. The shading was used to make a place look lighter than the other and try to make the artwork seem more 3D and realistic. I used an eraser to make some areas seem more shiny or lighter and darkened places with charcoal to make the shadows / body part really stick out. The thing I think really sticks out in this piece are the small lips and the details in the hair. Both have lots of elements that make them stick out a lot more and appear more satisfying and real. Although I don't like how the face looks and the over all proportions of the picture, I really do think it halped improve my shading skills and overall knowledge about realistic paintings in B/W.
